David Reinstein is an academic economist at the University of Exeter. His research focuses on determinants and motivators of charitable giving and other-regarding behavior. Relevant peer-reviewed publications include "Does One Contribution Come at the Expense of Another? Empirical Evidence on Substitution between Charitable Donations", "Reputation and Influence in Charitable Giving: An Experiment”, and "Efficient Consumer Altruism and Fair Trade”. David is currently working on an ESRC-funded research and impact project "Innovations in Effective Fundraising", jointly with the Centre for Effective Altruism. This project centers around promoting and exploring a particular fundraising tool arising from his latest research (see ‘giveifyouwin.org’). It also involves working with other individuals and organizations to build an organized, collaborative knowledge and evidence base, largely focusing on the issue of ‘what works to increase charitable giving, and to make it more effective’, and adopting a wiki framework.
